Doggie update

We lost our beautiful little Oakley in Jan of 2020.  He was such a joy in our lives over the last 16 years — standing by for the day-to-day, overseeing every family event, and helping us in our B&B endeavor.  Mascot, inspiration, happiness.  Life just isn’t the same without him.

We didn’t intend to get another doggie, but decided to rescue someone in Oakley’s memory.  Hershey and Peanut came to us in July from a puppy mill in Arkansas.  They were breeder dogs in a commercial, profit-producing operation — bred as soon as possible and for as long as possible.  We BEG you to never buy a dog from a puppy mill.  It will require some effort to research and ensure your breeder is reputable, but we see the horrific result of treating animals like machines.  They were considered equipment, lived their lives in small cages with poor nutrition and no health care or basic hygiene.  The puppies are taken too early from their mothers, have in-bred health problems that are never disclosed, and can suffer life-long behavioral problems from poor socialization.  The Humane Society https://www.humanesociety.org/puppy-mill-research estimates there are 10,000 puppy mills in the US — let’s put them all out of business.  We thank Debby from Rosco P. Coal Train Rescue https://roscopcoaltrain.com/https://www.facebook.com/RoscoPCoalTrai CommunityOutreach/ for saving our new doggies from a .22 in the head.
